Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

       Hello All,

This past week the Yellow Perch fishing here in NJ has broken wide open. The fish are shallow and on the chew. Ultra Light tackle and either a 2" Power Grub or 2" Slider Grub on a 1/16oz jighead pitched to clean bottom flats, open boat stalls or next to docks is the ticket. All sizes of perch are feeding up for winter on young of the year bluegills. I have had two days this week with 100+ fish caught. Favorite rods as ususal are the Trout series ul's from G. Loomis 1000 size Daiwa reels and 4lb Crystal Fireline. This bite will only get better as the water cools. Two years ago I was fishing open water and still decking perch on plastic tails in December. The great by catch includes a decent number of bluegills, crappie and both SM and LM Bass. PIckerel are very active feeding on both the baby gills and the perch. Walleyes also make an appearence occasionally. Great time of the year imho. A 12" 1.25lb Perch picture is attached. Not a huge Perch in some locales, but a damn nice specimen in NJ. Caught maybe 10 this size yesterday...Heading out again tomorrow.
