Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Finally posting my first open water bluegill report of the year.

Recently in CT I've been hitting 2 parks that are part of a river watershed.

Thursday 5/12 I was at one of those parks casting a size 6 glass minnow Rapala Husky Jerk. Saw schools of chubby gills around where a brook feeds in. Lightly twitching the jerkbait just under the surface caught me 7 bluegills and 2 dinky yellow perch. All bluegills had a good girth but didn't have the length of a bull. Most were 6 and 7 inches long.

For the past week I've been hitting my favorite spot for local crappie fishing. 1 lure they've been interested in mostly is a size 7 shiner Rapala Original Floater. So far within the past week I've caught 8. One of the days I was fishing that crappie ground, I was rewarded with a chubby 9 inch rock bass that was swallowing a crayfish.

Now that the largemouth bass are nesting and not paying too much attention to lures, I'm gonna continue playing with the bluegills, crappie, yellow perch, and rock bass.
