Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have an intereset in homemade baits and old time fishing methods. One of my favorite baits is hot dogs, I season up. I was wondering if anyone has any homemade bait or cheap bait they use? Also, as a kid I remember a guy calling up fish with a tuning fork. Would love to hear more ideas like this.

Thanks

Dwayne

I use sardines in oil. A small peice on a size 12 is deadly and then place any bait real or manmade into the sardine sauce left in the can. This works as good as any gulp product. Don't fish it on the bottom or all you may catch is catfish. Fish 6-18" under the surface and you will be surprised.

"I season up",what do you mean by that statement?I have questions regarding 'seasoning up'regarding natural baits that exist thru the season .For instance, those flying Grasshoppers that are so prolific in New Jersey Summers thru early Fall. I've  used them once with no success .Didn't really have a matched tackle and rigging though.

John, when I was a kid was an old guy in town swore by tuning fork. sometime he put bread crumbs in water sometimes not. all he did was hit tuning fork and stick in water, after a couple times fish came around. I cut up hotdogs in small pieces, then microwave them  few seconds, stay on hook better. mix them with sea salt, garlic salt and powder, add in some of the chopped garlic for store, in a jar. then i freeze them. right before i use them i add colored sugar to them. found a neon pink and yellow yesturday at store, cannot wait to use it.

This is interesting .Called up fish with a tuning fork ? Details on that'd be great!

Hot dog chunks  work great on Bullheads and Channel cats.  Small pieces for Gills too.

I mix wet catfood with flour and chicken liver blood for chum and shoot it over the hole with a spackle knife.
