Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Been having a ball lately with 8 to 10 inch gills and 12 to 14 inch crappies on Pink Things and the newer chartreuse braids I tie. Both at 1/64 th oz, but some thread - bodied 1/100 th oz jigs fishes below a sensitive Thill Stealth float and wind drifted at the local pond.

Nice, pre-spawn gills are giving me action. But today I concentrated on crappie, just to figure out if I could pattern them, rather than one here, one there. Caught 5 from 12.5 to 13.75 inches...nice fish!
Fished the jigs below a bobber today in the shady side of an old pier...bingo! That's where the crappie were. Lost a fish in the two pound class...what a drag!
Can't wait to get back at more panfish action next week!

Those Jigs look great! I tie jigs too. We sometimes use jigs that I tie crappie fishing at my hometown lake high rock. Fishing over brush ,crappie condos, etc. for hungry slabs is a blast.

Hey Jim,
I have been trying to catch crappie for two years now and with dismal success. I noticed that you asked a question about Lake Cahoon. That is where I am fishing when I get into fresh water mode. Blue Gills are fun as heck. But i want to get into some big crappie too. I had talked with a guy named Zig some time ago about geting some jigs for panfish. It seems that he isn't doing that any more. Do you sell the jigs that you make? If so I'd like to get some to take to the lake.

Jim, I make own hair jigs. I would be willing to send you a couple to try. Just let me know how they work.
