Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

My current project is the damsel fly. I've read so much about them lately, that I'm starting to feel like an entomologist!
This is just a trial, which proved several points to me:
1. Dub with marabou (thanks Tooty)
2. Apply the legs differently.
3. Keep the body sparse, not chunky.

I think you are on to something, Tony.
This late in the season, I'll be surprised if the fish show much interest.
But the testing phase must come.

I think you should put down this Wilson fellow's book and go soak that damsel......inquiring minds want to know!!

Looks great, David.

Just did it last night, Allen. I do more tying than fishing these days, anyway.
I've been researching 3 or 4 patterns that are universally good s and easy to tie.
I'm using the Wilsons book as a guide for this, more looking forward to next season.
This pattern needs a bit more refinement, particularly the legs.

Thanks for the encouragement, folks!

It's a..half-ma-watcha-call-it damsel. Water + Fish = lots of tug-o-wars regardless.

I give it a BIG 10 also

Thanks frIends!
I'm happy with it overall. The eyes work, the size is right and I can sort out the legs.
My research suggests that damsel and dragon fly nymphs form the berad and butter part of
of most fishes diet, throughout the season. If nothing else they are used to them and feed on them really wherever they are found. Bluegill are especially fond of them, and not too particular, as YOU suggest, Vince.
I recently posted a link to an article that detailed just how fish perceive their food. In short, as long as you can make it look like food, when they expect to see it and put it in front of them, they are likely to take it.

It seems like a good idea to have some in the fly box.
