Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Caught a mess of these rapacious little guys. They seemed to be wherever my worm landed. Several pounded the worm as I was retrieving, one leaping clear of the water to get that bait.
I also encountered a monster. It took a massive swing at my stick float, then came back for the work. It tore all over the pond, with me trying to keep it and myself out of the branches and flooded bushes.
It won...,.getting tangled and breaking off. 4# test and flooded brush don't mix. I waded in, trying to release it, but it got off itself and left me knee deep in flooded boots.

So it goes.
Thanks.for looking.

Wow it has to be hard to catch a fish with such a little big mouth.

Back when I was in Michigan, I remember watching small wolf packs of LMB's about the same size as pictured, running raids on baitfish in the shallow at sunset.  Wish I would have been into fly-fishing then, it would have been a hoot!

They are spunky, Allen.

Its like its 'now or never' with them...which may be close to the truth.
Once a fish reaches adult hood, it becomes master of its domain. Now matter how big our small it may be, relatively speaking, within its unique niche it has eminence.

But the odds are decidedly against it ever getting that far. I believe only something like 1%
of those hatched ever reach adult stage, a number that probably holds true no matter the species.

Seen this way, it is no wonder they act like everything is their last meal.

Spunky, aggressive little buggers, aren't they!  On ultralight gear, they are really enjoyable!

Ha ha, Tony.
Those boots will take a week to dry out. At least, it was for a good cause:

Rescuing a fish, that didn't need it.

That's fishin............. we have a large Flathead hanging around in 12" of water on a concrete pad that contains one of our overflow pipes, and this morning, in a moment of weakness, I dropped a micro jig on him.

Unfortunately, it stuck him right on the base of a whisker, and off we went. The fight lasted about 1/4 second before the line popped, but in that little time frame I got soaked to the skin.

4 lb line won't handle that much instantaneous violence..........

But my boots didn't get wet!
