The biologist called today and said that this fish is a great specimen, but likely a RBS X BG mix...hence no state record.

Nice catch and rare fish.
My guess would be a Longear/Bluegill mix.

The more folks who look at this, the more we're sure it's an F-1 BG X RBS cross. North Carolina doesn't have a hybrid bluegill record like some states. Maybe we should picket their state office (just kidding) :-)

1 lb, 13 ounces. If it's considered to be a redbreast sunfish, it would beat the state record by one ounce. If it's considered to be a hybrid, there is no current state record. I'll keep you informed. :-)
