Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Some hybrid gill'crackers finally started coming to the hook this afternoon. Fishing one of my micro-quills, they were very daintily taking red worms.

Sadly, I got one in the gills and he bled out; I don' think he's long for this world. The consolation is there'll be more for the others, now.

That is one interesting looking specimen. Very dark vivid colors.

You're right, Tony.
I've thrown in shellies as long as I've lived here, so Im partly responsible for their presence. I know one other guy who has done it, too.
The original stocking was bluegill only, so there is a crossbreed mix. I'm noting more of them this season, though, now that I know what a gillcracker is.

Love those fish, and the great fight they put up.

I'm impressed - weird because they weren't like that a couple seasons ago.

Pretty much, Don. It's dependable, most of the time....
although being a small pond it has it's hard to figure moments.

These little gill crackers are more numerous than two years ago, and I'm seeing a darker coloring than I remember. My guess is the water has been up for over a year, and that makes a difference.

Pretty colors on that one, I think you will soon have all the gills in that pond "trained".......Don
