Santee Cooper Crackers......First Week of May 2016

My friend Don has been slaying the big Crackers down on Santee Cooper this week........nothing over two pounds but dozens of 12 to 13 Inch Class Fish in the 1.5 to 1.8 pound class........He employs whole night crawlers fished wacky style in grass beds........very talented on this body of water.......

I would give anything to have had the digital technology back in the 80s and 90s like we have today.........The shellcracker fishing like most species on Santee Cooper has been picked up by an abundance of guides locally which does serve to help many experience these great dynamics..........most bait shops and little businesses surrounding the two lakes have at least one if not a handful of huge shellcrackers on the wall........it was not uncommon back in the early 80s to catch several hundred Shellcrackers a day and 75 percent would be over a pound..............The top end at Havasu is amazing to me but I haven't ever seen the quality in numbers like I saw living on Santee Cooper........Don wants to pay me a visit so I should get back out with him soon in return........

Outstanding!

Jeffrey...his tactics are almost exactly the same as what I am doing here...live nightcrawlers on a #6 Aberdeen hook for bass and huge hens...worms work!Just about froze today but got some nice post spawn bass on the drifted 'crawlers!
