Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

What a blast to fish public waters all by myself today and catch quality Tidal Water Panfish....It's not an addiction, it's an obsession for me.....Coastal North Carolina rocks and it just got harder to sleep at night! Out of 36 Gills today, 20 were over 9" and three were 10" or over.....

..and the new records will be hunted down by Sir Jeffrey this 2013, turning the number 13 into a lucky number.

No problem Paul....let us know how it goes for you...I'm always interested in how a particular technique works in other areas....I will probably fish one more weekend on the smaller jigs but I will then shift to the 1/32 ounce variety to entice the larger/sought after Sunfish..

Thanks Paul.....as I patiently waited for 40 degree water temps to jump into the 50s......I fished a smaller jig in the 1/64 to 1/80 ounce variety in most cases tipped with a live bait of either cricket, grass shrimp or minnow......Still equipped with these smaller jigs, I set out yesterday and found that the water had jumped to the mid 70s and all species were active with this significant jump......These jigs under a float give you color, movement, fall characteristics when fished properly from a long pole and the protein/smell of the live bait too...Under a float can easily allow you to fish in the strike zone once determined as well.....

This is a standard 1/64 ounce jig head with a 1" Chartreuse Shad Gulp Minnow threaded on and tipped with a live cricket...Can be fished with precision under a float in and around heavy cover...I like eagle claw jig heads but many others are good once you find a hook size to your liking...

Look at the jig fishing under a float discussion for more ideas.......Hope this helps Paul...
