Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Matching the hatch:

Left side: from black widow, to brown recluse, or large non-venomous spiders that hang in the bushes, which become drowning victims.

Middle top to bottom: Dragon fly, to mayfly nymph, and the bottom is various nymph and bugs with large body with long body parts, especially young crickets (added a bit of lead substitute to do a slow sink with braid line).

Right side: top is the lightning bug that matches the color scheme of the local bugs' nymphs. Bottom is the variable water bugs, flies, and drowning worms. Right two will be experimental.

That's what I do now except I don't use a leader I tie right to the line and I only use fluorocarbon line now. I do get lots of gill with it also. I just thought a fly rod would be fun also and it wouldn't hurt to learn another skill. It sounded like fun.

Dick, why use a fly rod? Use the open reel setup. You can incorporate into a clear bobber setup, with a 24" to 48" flouro leader. The black spider always get hammered when it floats near the bushes. Cricket, 80% of the time within 30 minutes as it gets close to the tules. The rest are wet flies. Get nailed constantly during the spring and into early summer. The far right, still experimental. The bottom right was successful with a #10 alberdeen hook. Not sure with the #8 circle hook.

I bought the neatest grasshopper from a gentleman at some kind of function we went to at the Fulton County Fairgrounds. He had a booth set up I think I bought 1/2 dozen different flies and I don't even fly fish but I thought they looked good. Maybe one day I'll learn how to use one a fly rod that is.

Yes, 1.5lbs trout for the dragon fly and spider. 1.15lbs (10.5") gill that my father-in-law captured near the marina during our trio-tubing session. Camera went into the blubbly during the incident with one of the jet skier.

Will use these boys again during late winter and spring..muahahahaha.
