Lets not forget Northern Pike.
Yup, Golden Shiner. They do make good LMB bait, as well as Striper/Wiper bait. For LMB's, just pass a large hook through the fish between the dorsal fin and the tail, on the top. Gently lob it near some weeds, and keeping slack in the line, let the fish swim into the weeds. A LMB will INHALE that thing.
For Stripers/Wipers, I've heard about impaling a tine of a treble hook through the mouth and out the top of the head, and suspending the fish below a large float or balloon in an eddy near swift current in a river known to contain these fish. Wait for the float to go under or run along the surface; if a balloon, it will usually pop.
Golden shiner - the only fish I've ever caught on anything in the Berkley Gulp! line. They liked the Asticots (maggots) an awful lot. Great fun to catch when they are schooling.
Looks like an overgrown shiner to me.
Golden Shiner....I catch them on crickets, worms, silent stingers, micro jigs and plain hooks in the Carolinas.......
LOOKS LIKE A SHAD TO ME and out east I hear these are a targeted species by fly folk !
Looks like a bass minnow from the bait shop here! Some type of shiner?
