A good mess of perch as the run began last year in early January..........most of these guys were males on the 9th of January.........I will be eager to get on some fish next weekend..........
Like here in the Albemarle a lot of people say kill every bowfin you catch.........thing is, it's a native species and the places I catch the most quality bluegill all have big bowfin.............I don't understand that though process......it may in fact be that if you take all the bowfin away the bluegill balance gets out of whack.........not scientific, just one angler's opinion......
Sometime its better to release them big predator fish they really have an important part in the ego system keeping things in check. Its a fine balancing act between having to many and not enough. Some people have a hard time releasing the bigger fish/braggin rights and therefore change the system in a never ending teeter totter slash balancing act...
I here you Dick. We have 3 lakes here that are overpopulated with crappie. Unfortunately, no matter now much management methods we put in place, the people decimated the control systems because they believed they are entitled. They're willing to destroy the expensive systems just to keep themselves entertained, rather than looking at a cease angling for a nice 18 months to improve the angling quality over all.
tHEY REALLY DO TAKE OFF .tHANK gOD THEY ARE A GREAT FOOD FISH!
John I do have a few crappies in my pond. I would usually bring them home in the livewell when I was fishing. You really have to be careful stocking them they can overpopulate and soon you will have stunted fish. Great for me with the Catfish, Largemouh Bss and the Hybrid Stripers they have kept them in check.
Dick -Do you have Crappie in your pond? I recall several years of early spring fishing where the Crappie were all over the willow tree blowdowns and I suspected they were getting ready to lay eggs on the numerous willow branches in the water .Anywhere on the lake there was a willow tree I could catch Crappie . Excellent spring pattern!
I DONT KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF YOU GUYS;; BUT I WANT TO GO TO JEFFS HOUSE FOR THIS DINNER !!
Definitely a never ending feast on your side. Great looking healthy fish sticks.
