Or maybe I'll take in a few red spotted sunfish over the holidays down in Louisiana.....don't know yet....

I now know these guys are the Red Spotted Sunfish......I posted a discussion regarding the facts from the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries.....

Stump perch or what ever they have very unique coloring.

The only place I've ever caught these Dick is in the Cypress back waters in Louisiana....You toss your bait right next to flooded wood or cypress and these guys crush it...hence the name Stump Perch.....No wood around and you won't see these guys...Lots of Cypress trees and knees....these guys will dominate!

With that short, tall body, this one has the makings of a bruiser if he could get a little bigger!

Im thinking some hybrid or local variation on the longear sunfish.

I like the rounded lobes on the fin; makes it look almost cartoonish.

Man, we catch those here, we'll be flipping out.

They've got the body dynamics of a champ!
