Thanks, Leo and Jeff.
This came from a pond at my brother's work, Leo. All the employees are allowed to fish them and bring people, though from what he's heard, there aren't a whole lot of people that utilize them. I've fished it a couple of times this year with my brother and this fish kind of came out of nowhere. The biggest bluegills I've caught are 6-7" though I had previously caught some gillcrackers in the 7-8" range, so I could only imagine redear being in there. I just wasn't expecting anything of this size, especially for an unmanaged body of water.
They sure do, Jeff. I still don't think I quite have the heart for 2lb. test, this fish tested my drag enough on 4lb. fluoro.
Great catch Adam! Congrats! Those fish can really pull! Big Bluegill are stubborn Bulldogging fighters, but Redears, once they figure out they are hooked, really take off! Better have your drag set light or you'll break them off! (We use 2 lb.!)
Impressive length. Is that public or private water Adam?
Thanks gentlemen. Still pretty excited about this fish. Far and away my biggest of any lepomis species. Could only imagine the fight in deeper water from a boat. It was great getting to share it with my brother, who is only recently starting to get back into fishing some more.
It's been a great year for quality fish thus far for me, Slip, having eclipsed my PB's in redear and pumpkinseed multiple times this year.
Great redear Adam.
WTG Adam - great fish!
...HAWG ALERT!!
excellent work Adam!... the quality fish of your recent outings are astounding... and to break back to back PBs on back to back trips with the RE is a great accomplishment Congrats!
keep em coming
