I'm thinking that the fish is a rock bass.

Cool Fish Clint! Based on a little internet search, it appears that the fish has a relatively small range and the biggest ever recorded was 1 pound 8 ounces. Colors are obviously unique but the eyes are incredible relative to the size of the fish. I assume this is the first one you've ever caught? The article I read depicted part of their range as Louisiana but I've never caught one and don't remember seeing one over the years.
