You know Jim, I feel the same way. I've got many stories that I would love to see in print some day. If not for my lack of talent concerning my writing abilities, I'd be all set.

I envy you! And I would also love to read about your exploits, both old and new.

I still remember my first Largemouth Bass I caught myself .My mom gave me some bacon and said to try it fishing I think I was 7 yrs old. (I'm 58 now).It was a small bass caught from shore under a bridge .I was thrilled I caught a Bass by myself and bragged about it all week !

An earlier experience I recall was what I think was my first Bluegill. There was a kids fishin' Derby where I grew up in Packanack Lake ,Wayne, New Jersey, down at the Peninsula where they used to hold the Boy Scout Carnivals.A friends father hooked me up with a worm and a canepole  .I was probably like 5 yrs old or something .I caught a "sunny" and was so surprised and excited and perhaps scared of a live wiggling thing on the end of my line, I ran like a wild dog back to the guy baiting lines yelling "I GOT ONE, I GOT ONE", all the time dragging this poor fish through the dirt and grass passed stepping feet. The grownups were cracking up all around me and I believed I realized for the first time that that was not a dignified way to retreive your catch .

In the early days my brother was acutally the one who was responceable for me starting to fish. He'd come home from the local creek called the LITTLE VERMILLION in Lasalle Illinois and always have a stringer of Bass hanging from the handle bars of his bike.
We lived about a mile and a half south of the then new ROUTE 80 and we had to park our bikes in the local cemetary and walk down a bbbbbbbbbbbig hill to the Vermillion just below the then new bridge under construction.

I'll never forget looking up when we got to the bottom of the hill and standing and staring in amazement at how big this bridge was!

We' d head for the creek and start casting for small mouth bass, just couldn't fish for lowly bluegills THEN. My views on that have changed to over the years.

Half a mile north there was an old rusty tail pipe of a car sticking out of the rocks in a small feeder creek and we'd drink the ICE COLD WATER OUT OF IT and fill our canteens.
ONCE WHEN WE WERE ON AN ADVENTURE we walked north all the way to TROY GROVE were I now live and there was an old mill pond there . We fished it and had a ball.

Little did I know that 50+ years later that that town would be my place of living out the rest of my life.

My wife and I raised our two sons in this town and guess what,

they grew up on that creek also. Just amazing to me now to look back at it all !!!!

Glad to be aboard with our friends. I once and awhile find myself reminiscing about the good old days. I find the older I get the more I reminisce. Well stories later. Tooty did you see the you tube video I put on the Forum (Hellgrammites fly tying) looked interesting and it looked like it could catch fish. Let me know what you think you are the fly tier.
