Learned on glass 6 Replies

You bet I used them. I learned on glass. That was all that was available besides the high dollar bamboo. My favorite rod was a little 6 1/2' Heddon 5wt. I started on a real cheap Shakespeare that I…Continue

Beyond my wildest dreams, all the folk who signed up for my group and many thanks to all who did!!!! 20 members and counting already and need input from anyone who want to do so . I try and check daily and see who is trying to sign up and if I miss someone for a day it is only because I was busy or something .............

Me..I'll use a broomstick and some coated washers as guides. Plenty good enough.

WELL RICK GIVE ME A CALL LATER and we'll talk about the merits of Graphite over glass and of course the other way too! I have an eight weight, 9weight , and a 10 here for ya just in case you decide to go for Musky's, Manatee's, or Mermaids!!!!!! All glass of course and wouldn't consider a graphite in the heavier weights my self, but that's just me talking and I"m kind of opinionated as you already know!!! Graphites can get kind of pricey buddy !

Tooty may not agree with me on this, but, if you're in the budget, stick with X-11 Fly 9wt, 9'. A little too long for me, but if you're on a boat, hey, 15' is still good. If money is not an issue, then the Infinity SI 9wt, 9', is the way to go.

If you have a the time and patience, search for a Kencor fly rod, 7wt/8wt/9wt, OR have Tooty fashion you the fly rod out of the remaining Kencor blanks. Here's a list of Kencor blanks from long ago, but searching for the model of the blank among the list should be a simple task. Tooty, want to chime in which blank may be best for Rick to search for?

Better yet, have Tooty fashion something from Lamiglas' blanks. Shouldn't be a problem with the rods' master at your disposal.

Sorry Leo - I ment fly rod not fly line.
