You bet I used them. I learned on glass. That was all that was available besides the high dollar bamboo. My favorite rod was a little 6 1/2' Heddon 5wt. I started on a real cheap Shakespeare that I…Continue

Rick, you're the fly lining master more than I, or better yet, Greg and Jen are the two masters that will give you the ultimate answer on the line. For me, since you are fishing the U.P. areas, where the water can be deep, suggestion would be a steady sink line:

Of course, there are many masters out there recommend something else better for the waters you're about to hunt from. They may recommend a 10' sinking tip. I wouldn't know. Never fish in the U.P. before. I've fish for large games, but never had the invested time to hunt them religiously like most of the fly masters in the BBG family. However, That will all change very soon.
Im suspised that they dont make any 4pc flyrods. I looking on getting a 9wt for pike and musky what would you recomment in the Lamiglas fly line.? Leo.. thanks
Yep. Same company. You won't know what you're getting yourself into until you take one of the Lamiglas rods out, and give it an ultimate full strength Herculean cast. I love their fly rods. The action, cast, and flexibility reminds me of the olden day Chinese master crafted bamboo rods. However, I also discovered Wonderods have the same, if not exact similar, flexibility, action, and durability as Lamiglas and the master crafted bamboo. My martial arts master used to use his bamboo fly rod to whip and fight us while he fished..so, I do know how well those bamboo rods could withstand punishment.
Is this the same company your talking about..
You know, I was wondering that myself. You know how the ones that could not pass inspection due to some kind of defects or just rookies trying to make blanks for their first times? Well..I believe they sold those crap off to China, and I ended up grabbing a few for my kids and myself to abuse them.
THANKS LEO FOR THE INFO ON LAMIGLAS and was afraid they were outta the picture, but guess not. Can't believe they had a second quality cause 10 years ago when I quit making the graphite rods they were still a top supplier of high end blands to US market .
Nope. Lamiglass is still in business. However, the company started selling their blanks to other companies for generic brands, such as Bass Pro, to make up for the lost and decreasing revenue. However, I notice something though. The blanks they sold off to other company as overstocked items are not as high quality as the ones they made for their own lines. But, 80% to 90% of Lamiglass quality is still much better than the mid to high end graphites I've been playing with.
HEY LEO, IS Lamiglas outta buisness now ?
HOW RIGHT YOU ARE DICK!!!!!!!!!! KIDS TODAY and I"m talking 55 years and younger, will never have the chance to experience what we did as kids . In my opinion were the old glass truely shines is with bobber fishing!!!!! Don't need to feel a dime on the bottom or anywere else for that matter, just wait for the bobber to go under!!!! Also some ways of fly fishing like say small dries on the surface or spiders for gills! People have kind of switched from being sight oriented on watching lines and bobbers and such that they now wait for the tap in stead of watching for a twitch in the line...........
True to that Dick. the ferrels and guides are crap. The blanks of course are great. I believe China did purchase the left-over or overstock of the blanks from Lamiglass production, and made generic brand for themselves. Bass Pro is known for its generic brand, as the company purchase massive overstocked materials from different companies, and made their own using cheap labor. I was glad to have encountered the blanks, rather than purchasing the rods made and sold by Lamiglass, which are 5x to 7x more than the generic. These rods will be perfect to train my kids with before I give them more expensive ones.
