Talking about Marlin Perkins, I watched an anaconda kick his ass on tv when I was a kid, but you have to give him credit , he was one of the few people in the world that was bitten by a Black Mamba  and lived.   LOFR

Hahahahah five gallon coffin!
Comment by Earl W Story on May 28, 2014 at 10:40am

Lots of youngsters look at my vintage equipment that I use and smirk until they notice I'm catching 5 to 1 over them. I've still have an old Rapala knife or 3 and a 30 yr. old metal stringer I pack along.

A 5 gallon bucket is my best friend when my knees don't wanna cooperate with me. I told my wife when I kick off I want my coffin in the shape of a 5 gallon bucket.

Welcome aboard everyone. Just a bunch of old or young farts all depends on how you look at it who just enjoy the leaser time we have to go fishing in all the ways we can think of. To me I love to fish new waters that's one of the challenge's I really  love. Maps are a great tool for finding my best spot outside weed drop offs. If no map available and I'm in my boat I'll just ride around the lake and scout out them areas for myself. Weeds are a great place for fish ambush other fish for food and to hide weather for security or keeping out of the sun. Fish don't have eyelids and they really like to stay out of the sun especially in the clear water lakes I fish in Southern Michigan. So fishing that drop off with weeds to me the 1st place I'll start. Remember cover weather it is weeds, rocks, docks or just a drop. All good places for fish to hang out. Anyway welcome all.

Thanks again to all that have joined the group ! My wife gets embarrased to now when I ask for the senior discount SLEEPY . Says we can afford to pay full price. but I say what's the use for living so long if you don't get some of the benefits.

JIM I STILL HAVE SSSSSEVERAL OF THE OLD RAPALA KNIVES AND ON OCCASION use em when I don't have a lot of fish to clean and don't want to mess with the same old electric knife I've been using for the last 25 years.
Hey JIm and how about old style scale knives . Now I can't remember the last time I saw some one use one of those , but have several of those just in case I guess...One old item I think that will go the way of of the Dodo bird is the ole metal stringers . They have many other uses though and still be around a while.

OH GADDABOUT GADDIS BRINGS BACK MANY MEMORIES TO ME !!! Thanks John for reminding me about him. Ya know way back when in the 50's he was a sales rep for who else, SHAKESPEARE CORP. and was from out east if memory still serves...Guess he had all his memory till the end which came in the 80's I believe.
The only non believers in the old tackle are the kids mostly David and you are right about em not believing it till they see it done by us old timers with patience and the right attitude bout fishing......

I agree with Jim, and might add this:
It's not just the items mentioned that defines us OF's, but both our willingness and ability to use them.

Today's young poop will look at a push button reel or wooden plug and say,
"Man, you can't catch nothing with that junk! It's outdated."
But the Old Fart not only knows you CAN, but at one point or another HAS caught fish with them.
