Good Fishing In Alabama In Mild Weather 12/2012 2 Replies

I had the tremendous opportunity to do a little fishing while visiting my mother in Alabama. The weather was great, snakes were in hideout mode, the banks were pretty safe. My cousin took me to this…Continue

Dwayne -Are the drags reliable on those zebco 11's .I have two cheap Johnson Spincasters I enjoy using but have to recall to pull the line out and wind tight after casting .Otherwise when you set the hook you end up setting slack line .It's a weird snafu with my spincast reels that guys dont like when I lend them one to use . Never a tangle is why I use them ice fishin'.The drags aren't the smoothest but work well enough with 4# test.

Thanks John, yes I am a spincast fan. Most rods in photo I don't use, But I am a big spincast guy. Funny thing I can toss a baitcaster all day, but me and spinning reels don't get along to good. I have been using zebco 11's alot, these days.

Thanks David, I just put this one together with what I had. When walking I have not had rods fall out yet, but they do bounce alittle.

When I make a new one front holes will be smaller and thought about adding two small screws on each side, to a hold something like a bungee cord. I was thinking of using the small elastic bands that have balls on them, that women use to hold a ponytail

@ Dwayne - no that is exactly what I had considered myself. I use a similar cut out for hanging racks, and I add a bungee to hold the rod into the recess. Im thinking the hair clips could possibly be made to do the same job.

And if the handle.span brace section was taller, the same height as the end pieces, you could probably attach some small compartment boxes fore and aft of the hand hold.

At least thats what I was thinking.

David, here is what I came up with. I have been using it a couple months works great. It is first prototype. I am going to make next one smaller and go smaller on front holes. Sorry pics are bad, had to use my boy as a model.hope this helps, if you need any info or better pics, I will get them for you.

The hair clips are a great idea for holding the sections together - I like that. They fit into a pocket real nice, too, once at the fishing hole. Im gonna get me some!

Can you think of a way to couple those clips with a handle or holder, where 2 or 3 rods can be securely fit together for easy carrying? It would be best it was also made of wood for easy construction.

Finally if it could be take the fish off the hook, have an attached recliner seat and hold a six pack of cold adult beverage, well... that would be nice, too.

David, I still have to get pic up of what I came up with. I found this on the web, seems like a good and cheap idea. This guy uses dollar store hair clips.

@Dewayne - did you ever come up with something for toting rods to the shore? I have an idea, too, something Ive been pondering.

@ The group- Personally I would like to have a nice jon boat, Gheenoe or something like that. I think fishing is at its best in a small boat. Nothing fancy, expensive or too big. I used to get along in large outboard boats, but I find such boats begin to overshadow the fishing at some point.

But I can be content on the bank, too. I do like to be mobile, so even when I'm bank crawling I dont take too much stuff. As long as I have a totable seat and a few creature comforts, I'm good.

I can sum it up in one word: K.I.S.S.
