Flier Sunfish Spawning 2 Replies

I often find Fliers mixed in with other sunfish beds like Bluegill. Some of the biggest Fliers I have ever caught have come out of large Bluegill beds. Has anyone else had the same experience in…Continue

This is a group I started years ago Bruce thinking more people had caught fliers but turns out most people in North America haven't seen one........

Thanks for sharing Tim.....that's a great Flier.....I'm looking forward to some colder air and targeting some big fliers....no surprise that Florida holds the record for a Flier! Good luck to you!

Robbie is the guide you want, and it seems the guide fee is nothing compared to the stop at his shop on the way in! Proof that tackle is designed more to catch the "fisherman" than the"fish"! I've caught 2+ pound bluegill each time he guided the boat and last year pulled his butt out of the fire when a photographer from "Our State" magazine was there to film a big catch. It was in a fall addition of the magazine and we were on the last afternoon, Robbie put us on the fish and my buddy Mat and I made the magazine. Dumb luck I call it, Robbie would say different I'm sure.

I hear you Bill.......I'm just 3.5 hours from there.....I'm looking at getting a day with Robbie Everett...........they have done great things with that body of water and kept it like it was........

Thanks Jeff, I need the encouragement and you can be sure on a report. This fishery is something to be experienced for Flyiers, bluegill and Bass. Ou owe it to yourself to try it, whether you stay there or fish by the day. In the end, you'll leave shaking your head "how can this water hold so many trophy fish!"
Photos big and small will be coming. I am returning with dear friends that make it an even better experience...after all that's what fishing is all about.

Jeff, I headed back to Richmond Mill on the 21st for a couple of days and you can bet I am after one of the coolest species I have ever caught! Last time I was there I landed a 1.2lb fish and I'm shooting for a 1.5 this year! I also am taking a handful of wooly buggers to try and get them to take a fly. I figure if they are on a feed I should be able to get them to bite. That anal fin makes such an impression and the coloration is spectacular, greens, blues and purples! Of course those Bluegills will be a target too.
