Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I'm a Central, PA, ice guy. My prediction for first fishable ice is late December. I just have a hunch. I hope I'm correct.

Bruce I hope your prediction is right also that means I'll be able to get out and play on the ice this year, I'm in Northwest Ohio.

I hope so too for NE New Jersey! Two years ago I was on safe ice just before a blizzard on Christmas Eve! What lakes do you fish Bruce? I fish Cupsaw in Ringwood ,Greenwood Lake,a  border lake to West Milford NJ and Greenwood Lake NY ,Shepherds lake  in Ringwood ,Wayawayanda in Vernon NJ,Monksville Reservoir in Ringwood,Vernon Valley Lake in Vernon.

Dick ,what lakes do you fish?

Well John of coarse my pond and being is that I'm on the Ohio/Michigan border most of the lakes I fish are in Irish Hills area and in Hillsdale county in Mi. Lots of water to fish sometime it doesn't seem like winter is long enough.

Sounds great! I fish  small waters with electric motor and 14' boat ,sometimes 10' boat and row in the evening if the wind is still.I also do a good amount of shore fishing . Ice fishing can last two months for the most part unless we have a year like last year.

I fish Raystown Lake in Huntingdon, PA; Lake Glendale in  Patton, PA; and Bald Eagle Lake near Lock Haven, PA.  Raystown is a resort area lake with 120 miles of shoreline. It was made by the Army Corp of Engineers in the late 1960s. It's not easy to find the fish through the ice because of its size I suppose. Glendale is a lake in a state park as is Bald Eagle. I do best on Bald Eagle because it's smaller and easier to find the fish. Of course, it's the the longest drive of about 110 miles.

Sounds like you got some good water there Bruce. Sounds like a lot of water can you use your ATV's on the ice.

Sounds great ! Hey Bruce and Dick ,what species are available where you guys ice fish? In my waters, through the ice, I 've caught Rainbow and Brown Trout,Largemouth Bass,Bluegill,Crappie,Pumpkinseed,Yellow and White Perch,Pickerel and  a yellow Bullhead once.I have yet to catch a Brown Bullhead ,Channel Cat ,Smallmouth Bass ,Musky or Walleye though they are available where I fish .

John we catch all those except no trout. Mostly I fish for panfish. We catch Bluegills, Perch, Pike, Bass and of coarse Crappies
