I had the tremendous opportunity to do a little fishing while visiting my mother in Alabama. The weather was great, snakes were in hideout mode, the banks were pretty safe. My cousin took me to this…Continue

25 fish of 65? That's lousy? I fear to know what the excellent conditions that allow you to break the 65 fish barrier, and achieving Jeffrey's 150+ fish record. I'll be happy just breaking the 20 fishes.

Finally Leo ,I've had a lousy year overall.

Good grief. 65 fish day? 3 daily doubles? You're having way too much fun.

I usually just put one end over the crayfish with out using bait but I've tied a chicken leg to that little rope before, and  set it down in the brook. When they crawl in I carefully turn it vertical .The cylinder contains them and I reach in and grab them . It 's best use I feel is one victim  at a time wading in the shadows putting one end of the trap over them .It's the way they catch shrimp in Sri Lanka if I recall that episode of National Geographic correctly .That's what inspired me to put together this simple trap. The wire was around the house and I just had to make clips from a wire hanger so it would retain its cylinder shape.

Nice trap, John. Whats the bait?

A simple Crayfish trap I made that works great .

Vince ,fishing for Trout ,I catch Crayfish as we call them up North and use just the tail .I pull back one shell segment to expose the meat and put it on a small hook .The Brown Trout  in particular love them ! In years past in June particularly ,I would fish bridges and catch the bait and the trout in the same pools .I discovered this when I caught a Brown trout for dinner and found a crayfish in his belly when I was cleaning him . I once caught a huge Largemouth with a Crayfish claw  coming out of his Anus !LOL Probably more info then you wanted but true! Ha ha!

Small crawdads are killer baits for gills as well as other fish. I hook them once through the tail, and have used pieces of larger crawdad tail meat that I first peel when I cannot find small ones.
