Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Not exactly easy to catch. Apparently, they are more interested in making babies, than eating, and the tough thing is, that its mostly the agressive males that will bite, instead o the big fat females. Oh well.

None the less, I worked pretty hard for about 7 hours, to catch 25 or so, Sunnies. Mostly RE's, but a few nice BG's too. Brought home 9 sunfish, for about 13 lbs.

Just had one awesome dinner, and a couple more to go ;)

Anyway, caught 4 or 5 in the 2 lb range.

These two went 2.2 and 2.0 lbs > and fought tremendously ! :)

 This was the big one of the trip, she was a real fatty, and went 2.80 lbs. Released her after photos. {selective harvest is where its at :)}

Going again tommorow ;) Whoo Hooo !

Peace,

Fish

You're the man Fish!.....great shellcrackers and awesome pictures! Put some pictures up individually so they can be featured...They are great! Thanks for sharing and good luck today!

Thank you Jeff :)

Do you mean, in this same thread ?

Oh, so hey, does anybody think their will be a time period when the RE's are still mostly up.... but have been spawning for a week or two, and so they are thinking less and less about that, and more about "food" ???

I sure remember some hotter bites, last year, and in years past ?

Anyway, from the way they look in the water, then catching them and seeing how big they actually are, I know I saw several 3+ fish yesterday ! Heck, I saw 3 of them swarming around one bed, at one time..... Think I stuck a 2 lb male.....

Anyway, will be back there in a few hours, and hopefully back here with more photos tonight :)

Peace,

Fish

Fish Chris you caught some quality fish awesome fish that anybody would like to catch but you did it you are the man, great job and continued GOOD FISHIN..

that's some good looking shell crackers Fish.

Awesome 'crackers, Fish!

What an awesome catch! I'm with Jeffrey, would you mind posting some of these photos under the "photos" tab? Would make a great feature!

Way to catch 'em Fish! I hope to one day catch one close to that size. Any details on how you caught them? Thanks for the pics!

What's the main food source out there Chris? I'm just wondering why these redear are so big across the board. It just seems like all of your fish are trophy ++ type of fish. Is this a private lake or public lake?

GREAT looking catch and your photography is super good. I'd pay a lot of money to catch some shellcracker like this.

Much thanks to all of you guys  :)

Hey Troy, I haven't fished a private pond for years (since I was a kid, and used to sneak onto them ;) LOL)

This lake with the big sunnies gets very light fishing pressure though, as it has a 10hp max, and no bodily contact.

It is slam full of crawdads, which I believe is the RE's main food source. Why they do not work as well as mini crawlers though, I have no idea ?

Yea', you probably know I chased trophy sized Bass, almost exclusively for about 10 years, fishing close to 1400 hours a year ! But I kind of burnt myself out on all of that, and have since just reverted back to my multi-species roots.

However, regardless of what I'm fishing for, I'm always after "the big one" ;)

Good fishing to all of you guys  :)

Fish

You have catching these huge shellcrackers down to a science, Chris. The presence of the high protine crawfish helps account for their size, but actually catching these monsters is a real art that most people never take the time to learn. You are the master Chris!

Astonishing fish Chris! Even at the 2 pound mark those are fabulous fish!

Good luck tomorrow!

Yeah, I agree with Jim, the look of those 2lb+ males are awesome and would certainly be on my wall.

It's amazing how many monster redear the Western states are starting to produce.
