Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

It tries to eat the bream I'm reeling in from moms pond. I've caught and released it twice. There's a bigger one, and it tried to eat a full stringer. Haven't gotten it on shore... yet.

The houses behind me are the lucky ones: hurricane Ivan hit Moms nieghborhood dead center. I am facing towards the bay in this picture... and it is visible, because of all the houses that are just GONE. There is plenty of access through empty lots, and the people in the neighborhood are very nice to catch and release fishermen, but will give the boot to anyone who doesn't respect the little lake. I'll tell the right person how to get there. Having good pics posted here isn't enough: you have to have pictures of releases too! I'm going to add the picture of the bucketmouth swimming free now, for any doubters. Oh yeah... that's the same bass in my profile pic. I'm going to catch him on every visit... because he IS a PIG for bream! BIG GRIN!

Those houses in the background crack me up. :-) Looks like it's right in the middle of the city. Amazing, amazing fish.

I didn't have a scale, and I only keep bass under three pounds [good for the other fish populations to eliminate extras], but I'd guess it was around 12 lb. The BIG one is pushing 18-20. It has thrown my hooks and broken me off in deep cover. The ONLY thing theses bass will bite is live bream: it is their only forage in the pond, and what they want. The result is a pond with very few small bream. Plenty of SLABS, big Wardaddy males and fat females, but the young must be hiding deep in the weeds, trembling in fear, because I rarely catch any. Will try to post some pics now. The network took a break for maintenance last nite, as my pics were going out. Fished two Mississippi lakes this week, caught some nice fish and had a wonderful time.
