Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

ive always wanted to try my hand at using a fly rod during the fly hatch on KY lake and ive found a place the next county over that has TARP size brook trout, probably hatchery fish.  anyway, online guides seem to be all over the place as far as weight.  i thought id see what some of the experts on here would recommend.  keep in mind that i will probably get into it with an LMB or channel cat during the hatch.

thanks

Jim is right IMO Eagle Claw makes a great fly rod for the money in the Feather Light fiberglass model and as well as the higher priced Power Light IM-7 graphite composite model. I own the Power Light and love it!... loved the price too! At the time it was under $40.00. Most of the other rods on the rack were from 90.00 to 200.00 bucks… the rod is significantly lighter than the fiberglass models… was and is important to me when concerning and dealing with my arm, shoulder and neck *pain.

SOUNDS LIKE ONE HECK OF A DEAL !!

i checked bass pro stocks online and they were out of stock on both eagle claw models so i didnt bother going to nashville.  i have a disc problem in my neck and was wondering about the glass rods as well.

i will check out the cabelas deal and may order it online.

thanks guys

I messed around with a couple of different set ups but finally put my ego in check and picked up a 3 wt from Cabelas.  Rod, reel, line and leader - great package for under $100.  Took a couple of fly casting lessons from a FFI Certified Instructor and really enjoying the adventure.  I've caught pan fish and small bass on the 3 wt and it's a blast!  Good luck on your journey!

well i missed the cabelas sale waiting on andude at the pawn shop wanting to sell me his for 100 bucks for everything.  wont answer his phone now and dont know what his problem is.

i did find a deal on a redington combo outfit on clearance for 99 bucks, but its a 6wt 2pc. maybe it wont be to hefty for what i want it for on the lake.  it might be just right with the wind on the big larts of the lake i fish.

i got enough left over for baits and maybe a new headlight for my boat.

wish me luck that i dont pluck my eye out with it.

oh yeah, for practicing do i need to have a fly or something tied on, or can i do without one until i get it figured out?

BUT this is an anniversary present from my wife and she says not to be anything cheap, lol.  so i guess i will comply with her demands because she can be a handfull.

so i was talking with a wildlife officer and he works part time at a fly shop in nashville and he said they have sold 250 of those Redington Path outfits and havent had any compalints.  he said in his opinion it was a little better than the TFO outfit for the same money with a moderate action....

I would find it hard to argue with either the TFO Sig II or Redington Path combos, if they're in the budget..
If it were me, I'd go with the Redington. package.
