Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I went to a local  lake to fish for some gills and I learned a lesson. Don't wade the shallows in the summer. The bigger fish are in the deep water. I caught a bunch of baby gills, but nothing over 5 inches. I did the best when I dropped a nymph tipped with a pink waxie off a dry fly. Just thought I'd offer a report to generate some discussion.

Glad to hear ya got out Bruce!... do not give up on that shallow bite! I spent nearly all last open water season pursuing just that with a kayak and had one of my best seasons ever… my first Master Angler B.Gill in one to two FOW middle of the day! I battled a bunch of 2 – 5” B.Gill in 18 FOW the other day!

I like the idea of the Pink Waxie on the fly rod!... I always wanted to try that with a wet fly

BRUCE;; GOOD TOPIC HERE BUDDY !  IN MY OWN ; ( HOME WATER ))  PERSONALLY I LOVE TO USE A FLY ROD CONSTANTLY;; HOWEVER; IT DOES HAVE;; DEPTH-- SET BACKS !! BY THAT I MEAN;; TO FISH DEEPER THAN;; 12 TO 15 FEET;; REQUIRES; SPINNING GEAR !;; OR;; THE EQUILIVANT !  ALTHO;; AT MANY TIMES;; FISHING SHALLOW WATER; GIVES UP SOME REALLY NICE BLUE  GILL;;   IM LATELY THINKING;; THE ; BIGGER AND BETTER ONES;; STAY DEEPER !  LEDHAED;; CONSTANTLY  FISHES;; IN DEPTHS OF 20 FEET;; OR DEEPER; AND CATCHES ;; H-U-G-E FISH !  SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT !!
