Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

The past few seasons it’s been season outdoing the last. Knowledge base on top of knowledge base. Building on some great info from this site and time on the water. I’m anticipating and looking forward to even better results with more citation fish. Anyway that’s the game plan.

Last year was the season of fishing TINY. Thin UL Lines loaded on tiny 50 series reels and light UL rods tossing tiny baits in front of fish targets…quantities of quality panfish and trophy SMB. Tossed the baits into thick cover with reckless abandon. Tiny presentations under slip bobbers thrown next to thick weed slop and weed pockets. Mid day fishing out of the kayak in less than two feet of water and tagging quality fish. Never really had another fishing boat come close to me fishing. it was like i had the lake to myself. looking forward to making some more good memories in the upcoming season.

Looking forward to any hints suggestions or comments from the BBG membership… sharing is the best way to learn and progress!

hope everyone a successful "2016 Open Water Season"

The ice suits they have nowadays are amazing… you have to be careful not to work up a sweat… lol. its actually more a lot more  physical activity than you think. im truly thinking my ice seasons are just about over considering my health conditions.

Never got on the ice a single time this season. I probably had a week where I could've, I think, but never even checked to see. Just too much going on. Open water now, so should start hearing of some catches round these parts real soon.

Sorry to hear that Tony … I know how you looked forward to the season.

I hear ya Tony .I didn't get on the ice either and probably wont .I haven't felt like a fisherman since mid December .That'll certainly change though . Anxious to get out again .

Same here. Lost about a month in a half at the pre- ice season… lakes in transition and above normal temps kept us off the lake till almost mid January. Lost a lot of days in between due to weather and not being able to find someone to go with to help with gear hauling etc. wont go ice fishing alone anymore... i never know when the legs start cramping up or stop working

20160227- ...----~~<")))))><(----------------------------

I walked to the lake and fished some open water with some Micro lite jigs. the Segment of Wixom Lake was 80% clear and open with ice cover just in the protected coves. Water was back down to winter draw-down and clear… No hits within the 15 minutes I spent there.

Ice fisherman were on the protected coves reporting 10-12” of clear strong ice.

20160229- ...----~~<")))))><(----------------------------

20160229- February 2016 left with very mild weather conditions and with 75% open water on Upper Wixom Lake. i was actually able to get some open water fishing in just to say i did it in February.

20160305-took a test run out on the ice today hoping maybe to get on Sunday... first hole showed less than 3" and i was out of there!

20160302- ...----~~<")))))><(----------------------------

20160302- looking at the extended forecast ... looks like the ice should be off the lakes 3-4 weeks earlier than normal!... going to have to hit that ice hard the beginning of next week!
