Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have used ultralights for years and I started out with the usual 5 footers. They work great and they surely have their place. However, the past year or so I have stepped up to rods measuring between 7 to 8 feet long. I feel that they have definitely improved my overall feel of the bite and control of the fish once they are hooked. In addition, they have greatly increased my casting distance when it is needed. Shoot, it also looks pretty cool to see that long rod bending down to the handle. What size rods do you guys prefer?

just ordered an UL Daiwa Spinmatic Ultralight Spinning Rod from FishUsa.5-6ft 2pcs... i currently own the 7-0 and 8-0ft ers... love the action on these and especially the price

I might have to give one of those a try. Have you ever used any of the Bass Pro Microlite rods. I have a bunch of the Okuma Celilos and I love them. However, I just wanted to try something different.

No... next time I go to BP I'll have to give it a feel.

I think you will really like the spinmatics Mo

I really like my  new Spinmatic 5-6 ft thinner lighter and faster

My favorite these days is an old Fenwick (yellow) that was cut down to 4.5 feet. IIRC the original length was a little over 5 feet; spacing the model number at the moment. I picked it up on eBay a couple or three years ago, and it soon became my go-to panfish rod.
