Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

What state would you choose to fish Bluegill if you could only pick one?

We are fortunate to have members from all over this great nation...One of my favorite things about Bigbluegill.com is the instant connection with the people that love and enjoy the same things that I do when it comes to all things Bluegill from folks all over the country.....Many of us have also had the great experience of fishing several different states whether vacationing, traveling for work or as a result of moving..... If you could pick one state to fish Bluegill, what state would it be and why? Thanks for sharing and I expect this may be a difficult choice for some and very easy for others.....Again, thanks in advance!

Not bad other than what seems like a lost fishing season. I got out a couple of times and did okay but no special trips other than the very abbreviated fishing portion of my FL trip. But that little taste - one of the biggest bream I have ever caught on my second cast - is one of the memories that make FL special. Most are much older. Shoulder is pretty much healed and I am good to go, but have had lots of conflicts. Another year where I am saying "next year"...

Glad to hear your shoulder is doing better Andy.......a new year is right around the corner.......good luck in 2016!

…keep in touch andy your input and POV are missed in the discussions.

in a perfect world.. Florida from January thru March... Michigan gets the rest.

I'm headed to Florida sometime in February to my cousins in Orlando he has been catching huge bluegills in lakes in his neighborhood , gotta go see what the fuss is about ,he's been catching pound plus gills on crickets . Long live the mighty cricket

Nice to hear from you Vic........hope retirement is treating you well.........hard to beat a good ole cricket! Good luck down there in Florida....let us know how it goes!

wow that sounds good! 1 # gills.... given the choice Florida fishing during the winter months or ice fishing in mid Michigan... i would opt for Florida.

Didn't catch that many gills this year as we did last year but what we caught was fine eating. Caught more bass this year but I'm m going to be on them this year like a big fat hen chasing June bugs..

Vic;; while your in Florida;; check out the coral castle !!  amazing place !  one guy built a coral castle;; all by himself; back in the early 1920;s !  look it up on the web !  coral castle !!

I have to ask.......we have a lot of great anglers that do amazing things on their home waters.......Take a look at the map and tell us which color group of states would you select to go Bluegill fishing and why...........I will provide my answer soon but I was curious about others.............I'm still trying to decide and I didn't think it would be as tough as it is.........Let us hear about your thoughts......WHICH STATES(COLOR GROUP) WOULD YOU LIKE TO FISH FOR BLUEGILL AWAY FROM YOUR HOME WATERS?

By RULE your home state should be eliminated for the point of this discussion.........so RED is out for me!

I'd have to go with brown

  1. North Dakota... Devils Lake
  2. Arizona world record red ear
  3. Florida ... all the exotic fish species available

All good states with good fishing

I could dig a trip like that for similar reasons.........I've fished Florida a few times as a guest and it reminds me a lot of the fishing I already do and coppernose are my #1 weakness..........which gill angler wouldn't like to wrestle with a 4 to 6 pound redear!
