We have a local variety of cane but this came from a nursery that I visited. They had harvested some and the owner gave me a stick.

Now just add stem and decorate. These are ready for the eye and a dip in sealer.

those are great keith you really have an eye for this stuff

I started visualizing as soon as I got the material. I doesn't always work out this good. I have a box full of crappy floats that either look bad or sink but I try to learn from each mistake. This is something I made with rest. It is a decorator piece,I wouldn't lean on it too much.

Keith  you make it look simple to do !!   great idea you have of making these floats

It is simple Carl , I will show you some tricks in May.

This is a pic of the progress made on the black bamboo floats. They are pictured with some wild cane floats of the same style. It's like having pre-colored  material. I'll have to go back and get some more of that bamboo.

awesome keith

I don't paint many floats because I tend to like the rustic aspect of my materials but I was trapped inside today and painted these. Some fishing situations call for maximum visibility and as I build mine to fish with I need a few  bright ones in the tackle box.
