Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

When my wife and I visited Kentucky Lake a while back to fish, picnic and a little beach combing we picked up mussel shells, odd pieces of driftwood, a couple feathers and a piece of an old corn cob. I stripped the feather and cleaned up the blackened cob and made a neat float. It will remind us of that trip as we fish with it in the future. Yes I make them to fish with. I am also using the driftwood for float bodies. Check out the pic, I haven't sealed it yet but you can get an idea what it will look like.

another amazing piece.i may try a cob float as i bought a bunch of mini indian corn that i am saving the seeds to plant next year.being in illinois there is corn every where .the ears are huge as it is hybrid super corn mostly used for ethanol production.could 't find any cobs small enough until now.

I've used popcorn cob a lot. I also find cobs from plants on the shaded end rows that are stunted. The tapered end of a regular cob makes a nice float that's pre shaped.

yes keith, these are tiny popcorn ears.the ears are about the size of my thumb.the corn looks like little jewels, found a lady that grows it.heirloom seeds to boot.i have about a dozen ears so i figure a couple 100 plants if i want.one hing about illinois ,you can grow corn in the crack of a sidewalk.

I'll expect some of that crop next year. I've got some popcorn seed I've got to remember to plant.

Those look great Keith.  Since you apparently have a lathe, I'll see if I can find some buckeye.

I don't have a proper lathe. I use a drill chuck on my bench grinder. I've been eyeballing pen lathes but haven't bought one yet. These aren't as round as they look.
