Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

For all of you midwesterners.....how is your bluegill fishing in the fall (Sep/Oct)? This time of year I usually switch to yellow perch fishing.

Some of the most explosive big gill action for me occurs during Sept/Oct......In September I throw 1/4 oz spoons at fish that are pinned to the bottom in 30+ feet of water (FOW)

Oct thru Nov, when surface temps start to plummet, I chuck 1/16-1/8 oz spoons to fish suspending off deep weed lines in close proximity to wintering areas.

Some nice fish there. Makes me want to go get some good rod bending action.

Thanks.
Sept, Oct and Nov are my big fish months! Look for your bite numbers to drop some but the quality of fish will be much higher! Good luck!
The gills in Eastern Iowa are ramping up now. Fall is a great time to catch them as everyone else is out hunting. I just caught two over 9 inches and several more in the 6-8 inch range. They seem to be putting on the feedbag before winter gets here.
Here in Mid-Michigan fall is a great time for bluegills. They seem to run bigger in the fall and the lakes are less crowded,Jet skis and speed boats are not around.
Sounds heavenly.
Labor day with 20' cane poles and crickets, fishing in 20' of water, around 10-14 ' deep. BIG Gills start their fall feeding frenzy in S Michigan.
