Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Hi my name is Ray and I am new to this forum. I am interested in making my own marabou jigs and

I would like to know what is the best way to learn how to tie them. I never used them for bluegill but

I have used them for Rainbow trout and I think it would be fun to make my own.

Many ways to make your marabou jigs and making your own and catching fish with them really is what it's all about. Have to determine if you want all marabou or something else for the middle section of the body. I've tied marabou jigs before but always with a chenille or some other way to create the body section the center portion and them off the back would be the marabou tail and marabou seems to give that jig life. I tied a few jigs but I think my last few really have been without marabou and as you start to tie your own jigs you'll enjoy experimenting with different materials and your own creations. Maybe this was not exactly what you wanted but if I can be of any assistance all you need do is ask. I also would suggest maybe watching you-tube there is much information there to be had there also.

Thank you for the advice.

Ray;;  one thing to always remember;; when tying;; your only limited by your imagination!!  some of the very best patterens;; were made by trial and error!!!

HOW RIGHT YOU ARE CARL !!!!!!!

Any one got a good video link to tying marabou Jigs?

John once you  start it can be addictive so be careful what you ask for. I would start with you tube and may the jig tying gods be with you.

Thanks Dick ,I can use lots of help . I've had success with Yellow Marabou red heads on Yellow Perch in the past .

John if I can be of any help I'll do what I can for you I hope you know that. The hard part tying jigs is getting started but once you learn how and where to tie things in and tie them off so they won't come undone the rest comes easy almost 2nd nature. If there is one thing I will add is don't be afraid of glue it glue is the tiers best friend cinches things together and holds it all together. I use a water base glue and so far have had good luck with it.

I agree I just want to know the basics. Can you guys recommended a good website to order the materials from.

Raymond I buy from all over I mainly shop for price. I buy locally here from Jans Netcraft it's nice cause I can go over and see the items I'm buying along with getting educated as to what some of the other items look like. Them I buy a lot off of ebay. I get my poured jig in bulk 100 to 1000 at a time but I wrap only small jig my biggest being 1/8 and don't tie many of those. The ones I personally wrap mostly is 1/16th, 1/32nd, and 1/64th.. I use to pour my own jigs but it was a hot nasty job and for the amount I tie I now just buy my jigs already poured. I buy most of my chenille from ebay and some of my marabou. My thread I get from Jans along with my glue at like I told john John is that Jans has a great water base glue for fly tying. I use lots of glue but its cheap and will last a long time. It pays to shop around and ask questions like you doing. If I can be of assistance all you need do is ask.

Just bought a Fly Tying Starter Kit from Jannscraft.

Will be learning how to do this myself come winter.

Looks like you'll be selling your soul to the fly tying gods. If there is something I can do to help just ask. I don't know what kit you bought but I'm sure it's something to get your feet wet and wanting more.
