Do you love big bluegill?
How do you decide what color and type of jig. I have always just been a cricket or red worm on a hook guy Have tried a few jigs with not much luck trying to learn more way to catch them It may all be me not the bait just trying to learn

I should have said lures instead of just jigs
Thanks
Chuck,
I was the same as you. I think it depends on the time of year, but recently I've been using a 1/32 pink jig tipped with a GULP Alive Waxworm and the combo of the pink jig head and the white waxworm worked really good the last few times. I also had luck with a yellow color jig head too. For lures I use a popper. I usually use that at dusk or dawn. I usually catch bass with those, but I've caught a BG or two with it.
My go-to is the transparent fluorescent chartreuse curly tail. Chartreuse seems to be the little black dress of soft plastics. I also like some white Berkley curly-tails I have. Often I tip them with a little red worm. I hang them a foot or two under a streamlined bobber and retrieve them in short cranks.
These attract everything: BG, crappie, bass, yellow perch, a catfish(!). The only problem for BG is whether they can fit the bait or hook in their mouths.
If you're after BG, go for a small jig hook. Other than that, I don't think it matters what the jig head looks like if you have an attractive soft plastic.

There are a lot of variables to selecting color.
Water clarity, stained / clear water.. Ambient light conditions , sunny / cloud cover etc..
Water depth you are fishing
Spring / Summer/ Fall / Winter..Also i believe water temp plays a factor and sometimes even the wind..
You just have keep trying and find what works for you..
For plastics i would start with white or pearl, a smoke color and or lime green.
and adjust from there, fishing jigs try just a lead-head first then find the size and color that works for you then you can use combinations of plastic and jig colors..I like hot pink with a white or pearl plastic pretty dependable..
Scott ...AKA ..Skol..
1/80th or 1/100th oz black body wrap it in black hackle should do the trick!!!
