Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Everybody knows its weekend time so interested to know where people are going to fish this weekend(lake) , what technique, and are fishing from land or boat.

Might bring my Medium rod to my girlfriends tomorrow and fish off shore at the creek across the road...Have caught many smallmouth and rock bass in there. I know there are Pike in the creek as well. Or maybe my ugly stik UL rod, cant break that thing!

No bluegillin this weekend, my good spots for them are full of pleasure boaters and jet skiiers, dont want to get run over on my kayak!
Weekend?Fish? ,,,, I hardly ever fish on weekends . I prefer the midweek days to avoid
the other fishermen. I seldom ever run into others during a weekday and in my float tube.
As for technique, deadsticking an 8 1/2' UL with homemade jigs tipped w/waxworm
from a Fish Cat#4 float tube. The plump gills yesterday and day before were holding around 10' over 25' of water.
Yea, I avoid the weekends these days too. Plus I'm working.

I'm taking the week off though. I'll spend about 3 days fishing off break walls, and taking my little boat into Sandusky Bay. Fishing for everything.

I'll be using simple live baits....worms, waxworms and shiners.
I went Friday. Had the whole lake to myself. It was one of my favorite lakes listed in my profile. I was hooking crickets and watching the quill stand up, then head downtown. I love that.

Toward the end of the day, I finally caught a small bass stealing one of my gill crickets. In an earlier discussion on bass nicknames, someone called them "punters". Well I really thought about seeing just how far I could punt one. But there weren't any bass fishermen around I could horrify so I just chunked him a fer piece. If he was going to get anymore gill bait he was going to have to swim awhile.

Anyway, that's where I went and the technique I used, and the one I wished I had. I did catch a lot of gills. I quit early because my arm hurt from slinging that bass.

Boogieman

I was out for a few hours today...on a lake I haven't fished for years!....The gills are still there(8 pics posted today).....Today it was 1" pieces of night crawler on a plain #10 "blue" hook....no bobber ..1 single split shot........dangled over the side of my canoe in 12'-15' of water about 100' from shore and the lilly pads......no wind all day!......calm as glass!......my kind of day for gills!....This was one of the bigger guys from this morning.....
Got two options...1) a small public lake about 8 acres that is right along a state hiway...few people fish it, big gills, we have taken them to 10.5 here this year. 2) the private pond that has produced those mammoth sunfish on worms and spoons the past two weeks.

It's gonna be hot! Stay cool, guys and gals!
