Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Trico Poly Yarn Spinner, size 20.

The funny thing is, I think I've seen a Trico hatch below Keystone Dam.  Might have been some PMD's.  Whatever they were, the body was about half as big as the fly I just tied.  Not sure if I'm up to attempting a size 32.......

You could always tie up some 26s.

Do you use a magnifying glass for anything over 20?? I can do 20's alright but I can't imagine going to a 26 or 32...cray.

allen-- your using a microscope to see these to tie aren't you??  I know I would!!

nice and small just what the gills like

Thanks for the comments!

I just got a pair of +2.50 reading glasses.  They DEFINITELY help.  If I was to go any smaller, I would have to go with the glasses.

Here's a few of my little trico's, can't remember if these are 18 or 20's but I call them "Things with wings" :)

Nice!

Nathan-- those look really good buddy

Thanks guys. I like to keep my flies for bluegill simple as can be since during the summer the bluegill are not very picky. These are just some antron yarn and some home made dubbing. Simple, easy, fast are the three things I look for since bluegill tear my flies apart normally.

wow size 20! and it actually looks like something! I'd probably drop it trying to tie it on then never be able to find again!

I've dropped two of the finished flies, and one bare hook.  Luckily, I recovered both of the flies.  Haven't found the bare hook yet.  Knowing my luck, I would drop the bug before I could get it tied on.

I keep a rectangular magnet on my steel tying cart,  Allen. It is 3.5"x1.5" and quite powerful. When I lose a hook over the side, I sweep the magnet around and, "DINK!" - the rogue is found.
