Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Has anyone used these? I've read that they have basically zero memory and last for a long time. I was thinking about trying them. What do you you guys think?

They are pretty fancy. I would have to say that. If you just fly fishing for gills and other warm water species, they are probably overkill. If you are after trout, then j would say go ahead, anything that can help us worth it. I get by just fine with tapered knotless leaders and a couple of sizes of tippet just fine.
Awesome! Thanks for the replies guys.
heck dana what you said was a tad fancy for me im jsut too lazy to buy taperd leader i just buy florocarbon spool of line and tye it to my leader loop
A guy a fish with basically does the same thing. He just ties on a bunch of tippet directly to his fly line. It seems to work real well.
it has for me i have caught many big carp using the setup with me line biggest one was well over 10 lbs
If you make your own, it's a great way to save a few bucks! I don't make my own, but I buy the line, and split all the leaders made from that line with the guy who does.

check this out on how to make your own. http://www.nefga.org/forum/diy-do-yourself/11824-how-make-tapered-f...
Wish this link worked.
hello, just joined the group i've had good luck with furled leaders from feather-craft (big fly shop in ST.LOUIS) they make all sorts of different leaders for different apps whats really nice is they have a tiny ring on the tippet end to tie to.they even have an indicator leader that is red so easy to see geoff
They are a bit pricey, But they are so freaking kool. Be careful you might wet yourself. JK buy one , either you will love or hate them.
Funny how things change for us fisherman. Since posting this question I've moved away from tapered leaders completely. It may sound odd but I use mostly 9-12 ft on either mono or flourocarbon. I just nail knot it right to the end of my fly line. It took a little time to figure out how to get it to turn over but now I'm so used to it. I love it.
I use these all the time - I bought 6 of them 4 or 5 years ago off of Ebay, tied them to various reels and they have been there every since.

However, for bluegill with poppers and other bluegill style flies with some substance to them I like plain old mono in 6 - 8 lb test tied right to the line. But if I am using dry flies or something really small (trout types of flies) OR I am bass fishing I will use a line that has a furled leader on it and just tie some tippet to it (for Trout) or some fishing line (Bass). They seem to turn over a lot better than just about anything else.

They are kinda pricey - but they have lasted for a very long time
Hi
I have never used the furled leader. I just recently switched to the knotless leader by Scientific Angler, and really like it because you can use the connector as an attractor and best of all you can tie up 3 or 4 at home and have your flies already tie on before you ever hit the water. Check out their website and they can explain the system better than me. I am really impressed with this leader. www.activeangler.com/flyfishing-products/macnair-sa2.shtml+Scientif..." target="_blank">http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:BJkbOm-Q1wgJ:www.activeangler.com/flyfishing-products/macnair-sa2.shtml+Scientif...
