Do you love big bluegill?
This little guy works well.....I tied this one in Pink and Black for the Big Bluegill board.

Donald, nice looking WB!
Do you have a problem with the hackle breaking and unraveling after catching several fish?
No, if you tie it the way I did, I think you will be fine. If you are worried about the hackle breaking.......just tie in a piece of fine wire where the tail starts. Then after the hackle is wrapped, wrap the wire forward, weaving in and out of the hackle fibers, and tie the wire off at the neck. Your hackle will never come off even if it brakes.
.........Good luck................Don.
allen-have had this happen on many palmered patterns. you can counter wind wire thread what ever to trap the hackle stem.you must wind it opposite the direction of the hackle and use a bodkin to pull the hackle fibers out as you go.or you can use head cement or supr glue on the stem
Jim, that's what I do as well. "Armor-plate" my bugs. I've heard that mylar for ribbing might be better than wire; but I haven't tried that approach.
I have wrapped it either way, but I seldom use a piece of wire on the smaller patterns. I will keep that in mind the next time I tie hackle..........Thanks, Don
