Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Hello, My name is Nick Holt, from Columbus, Georgia. Panfishing is a passion with me, and I've been chasing gills, shellcracker and crappie all over 3 counties for the past 30 years. I've never owned a boat, but that hasn't stopped me from catching fish. I use hand-poured grubs, tube baits and paddle-tail jigs in a variety of colors. I also love to flyfish for bream, and when possible, and I can convince a friend who owns a boat, I'll tightline worms and crickets off the bottom. I'm glad I found this site and will hopefully send some pictures along soon. Thanks for allowing me to join, Nick Holt.

Welcome aboard!
Thanks Jim. Where are most of the members from?
We're excited to have you here, Nick.

You're our kinda guy!
Welcome Nick.
Sounds silly but most of the members are from all over...and alot in the upper midwest. I'm a Maryland, PA, Delaware, Virginia guy.
welcome to the site from savannah,ga. glad to see another georgian. i to am a bank fisherman i just have to get my boat back up and running again and i see that you fly fish for them too i am just starting out fly fishing. so how big is the rod you use and what weight?
Hey fellow bluegillers, Thanks for the warm welcome. I've been looking for an active site like this for a long time and I'm impressed by the number of members. Jim, I should have realized that the membership is nationwide. (DUH!!). As I mentioned when I first became a member, that I like to fly-fish for gills. I use a 6 weight rod and weight forward 5 weight floating line, a 6 pound leader and a 4 pound tippet. My bug of choice is a slow falling black ant pattern. During the Spring when the gills and crackers are bedding, the action is fast and furious. After the Spring beds are done, then I switch to my hand-poured jigs in either a 1 inch tube or 1 inch curl-tail with a 1/32 lead-head. I also like the 1 inch Keystone Minnow with a 1/64 ounce jighead. If all that fails then I go to tightlining redworms or crickets off the bottom. I was able to go out this past Sunday to a friend's 12 acre lake. There on the bank, was a 14 foot jon boat and trolling motor. My friend told me that I could use them any time I wanted. I caught 30 nice bream and kept 20 of the 7 to 9 inchers and throwing back the big boys except for a couple for pictures. I could have kissed my friend's feet for allowing me to use his boat and lake at my convenience. Well, that's about all for now. Again, thanks for the warm welcome. Nick
Hello everyone,my name is KC from Nashville,TN and am real glad to have found this site today. it's 1100 hrs right now and I just got back from doing a lil bluegill fishing. I am a shore fisherman (hoping to get a boat soon) and new to panfishing and I found a nice hole here and have been fishing it for about 2 months now. but somehow recently I havent been getting any luck. Is it because of the time of the year? Since I dont have a boat its kinda of hard to find spots to fish from. I'm using nightcrawlers and minnows. Since I have all these lures and dont know how to use them Can anyone help me with some other techniques?..thanx
