Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Here's something only my fevered mind would dream up.
Every angler wants to catch the big name fish. Big bass, Massive salmon, trophy bluegill, arapaima in South America (my personal quest), and so on.

But what about those other fish, the "trashy" ones we don't admire nor talk much about? If you were to target them, which ones would you go after?

In other words, what would a "Non-game Fish Bucket List" look like?

whats those flying asain fish that have invaded the waters in the states? i can see a volley ball net and cooler working real well.

The fly carp that you're referring to is the silver carp.

thats the ones! what a pain in the rear they must be. i wouldnt mind thinning them out. they hurt the wildlife and eco system that was in place first. wonder how they taste. might have to fry them lol folks will eat anything fried.

You mean one of these ????

LOL I don't think that's it.

is that a large one or avg? ive never seen them in person. if thats small or avg i bet its fun fishing.

beautiful fish Bob

Getting a LOT OF GREAT RESPONSES!

Its fascinating to think of all the "other" fish that are out there, some probably right around the corner. When the bluegill and bass wear thin or just dont show up, what alternative might be waiting nearby?

Locally, my NonGame Bucket List is topped by the popular Quadfecta of catfish:

White - 5 lb.+

Blue- 25lb+

Channel- 10lb.+

Flathead - 25lb.+

(There are gar aplenty, and Ive caught enough to suit me!)

The rest of my list is shaping up like this -

Snakehead

Bowfin

Eelpout, aka, burbot

Rio Grande Perch

20+ pound carp

Large redhorse (sucker)

Buffalo/drum

MAXIMUM sized shiner

You got yourself a heck of a list buddy. Better start crossing some off soon.

Leo,
Thanks buddy!
I'll probably just catch another gar, though. LOL

And.... I forgot STURGEON.

I think they may be classed as game fish here and there, maybe?

i dont think many of those left around my area. they were fished heavily in the 1970 and 80s for the nasty little eggs. i dont know how folks eat it.
