David, thank you. I also included a pic with a tapemeasure for reference. I didn't know the tape was on my dashboard til it was too late .........quick somebody kick me!

I'm guessing the waters clarity is the reason for the muted markings.
I've heard of bluegill in mine pits, where the water is gin clear. The fish that live there are nearly transparent.

Thanks Jim for the comeback. I'll be out on the water next week and need all the help I can get.

Yup Jim looks like a red ear to me and a nice one at that , I might add. Unless you got hands that are like a gorillas I"d guess 9 -10" . .......

Dick, as far as I can tell it's a redear, I'm guessing a female. Light red on the gill flap, and picture does not show this feature. I caught it on a chunk of nightcrawler, in probably 8 feet of water, #4 longshank cricket hook, about 3 feet under a small bobber.  My pond water is vert clear. Visibility I'm sure is pushing 8 feet.

Jim it's a long fish for sure but a little shy on any bluegill markings. I had to look at it for a minute. Jim what did you catch it on and how deep do you think it was.
