size 12 popper on a 3 weight rod.i was casting some small jigs and spoons i made with waxies on them ,nothing ,not a nibble.found some clearer water and they were all looking up.i only had the 1 popper with me as i thought it was way early .but the bugs were out and i got 20 or so small ones then the big one.got a couple more small ones then lost the fly.

Nice fish, I guess I'm going to have to invest in some poppers all I have now is spiders. I guess I'll have to upgrade to some different baits for the flyrod.

Very neat - Im glad to see those poppers doing their thing.

I need to get me some of those. Did I read correctly - was this caught on a fly rod?

thanks everyone it is hard to believe .but my phone takes better pics than my camera.it was so bright and warm here today in n/e illinois. was fishing a small preserve that lets us fish there for a small fee .usually stocked with trout this time of year.well they had not stocked yet.the bluegills here are usually small so i had a 3wt with me and wanted to catch something.i was as surprised as this fish when it realized that hunk of foam and feathers wasn't a bug.really fought on the little rod
