Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Anybody tried these before? Canned and preserved crickets, grasshoppers, and several types of worms?? Thanks

Or has anybody tried the fishermans choice brand?

I tried the "Tim-buc-too" version of preserved crickets.  They were so fragile I couldn't put them on a litewire hook, they just fell apart.  Wound up feeding the fish and tossed the can into the trash bag.

ive never used them for fishing but i had them for one of my geckos and once opened they only last a few days even refridgerated, i would suggest gulp maggots or gulp alive crickets ive had really good success with those.

Yea, I've had luck with those too. I was just wondering how these preserved versions would do. Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, there is only so much you can do to freshly preserve the baits before cellular degradation kicks in. Once cellular degradation kicks in, things tend to fall apart, especially with soft body worms or insects. Crickets and other insects with harder outer shells can be preserved a bit better, however, there's a finite shelf life before event the preserved body falls a part. There's no way to balance original preservation of the body attractant fluids without sacrificing the body integrity during preservation processes. That's why fresh live bait is advice to be used all the time. I've been seeking a method to preserve insect for a long long time. There's no way I'm sorry to say that can be done longer than 2 weeks, unless someone comes out with the cryogenic compound that preserve the body, preventing the body from degrading too fast after post mortem. If someone can shed some light into that compound, let me know. Been researching it for the past 3 decades.
