Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I was doing some exploring, and managed to get a bird's-eye-view of a Catalpa Tree, complete with Catalpa Worms.  They make great catfish bait.  Actually, I think they make a great all-species fish bait, as I've never caught a cat on them, but have caught Crappie and sunnies.

Somehow you are supposed to turn them inside out before hooking them. Uh, really?

Turning the worm inside out, then hooking them? I think when you hook them, they already ooze plenty from the inside out.

No seriously, Leo - you turn them inside out. You can make a wire inside-out puller just for this. I dont really know why, but it's what I've always heard.

I've heard that, bug don't really believe it.

Wow. That's wickedly cool. Flipping the caterpillar inside out for fishing. Seen a video somewhere that catch good fish with these massive grubs?

Dude, you got some good set of eyes. I only caught one on the lowest branch from that video.

Leo, I first noticed the Catalpa tree.  As I was looking at it, I noticed some of the leaves had been chewed.  That's when I really started looking.  If I remember the count right, from the video, there were six that I saw.  On the vid, I can only catch about 3, maybe 4.  That camera is a little shaky, the screen is to small to use it to frame my shot, not to mention the screen is scratched up a bit, which REALLY makes it hard to tell what I'm capturing, especially in sunlight.

Those were some BIG 'UNS!  I'll bet they went 4" long.  Now I've got to really start looking at the trees around here.  There are Catalpa trees EVERYWHERE in town.  Most are on private property, some are on public land.

Allen, we use a lot of Catalpa worms here in Alabama for catfishing with Jug lines..but large Bluegill are very fond of them also..you can freeze them in water in 1/2 pint keepers and  thaw them out when you need them and they will be as fresh as the day you froze them...Good fishing...Stay Thirsty My Friend
