Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Okay, if the live bait glue is not hot enough, let's kick it up a notch, or 10. Back in 2005, I keep hearing and seeing people buying charteurese colored worm at Wal-mart, and pretty much anywhere they sale baits. Out of curiosity, I bought a few container of these worms, I believed they called it Nitro-Worms. Not certain if I caught more fish because of the florescent glow that the ink within the worm's body emits under water, or the color attraction. Looking over my notes, I tried different food coloring dyes with my baits and worms, but I did not achieve the optimal catch like I had with the Nitro-worms. So, the research was on. Recently, I found the Glo-worm bottle at Bass Pro, and, the scientific cheapster rang the alarm bell, "It's way too expensive! $14?! Make your own!"

U.S. Patent # 6572877. Xanthene acid yellow 73. Hm..same as the glowing color inks used to make glowing prints for food packaging to entice kids. Okay..I'll bite. Further research, they use about 3% to 25% total mass of dye to food ratio. Okay..not a problem. Checking chemical compositions and asked the local PhD chemists to see their objection to use on live creatures, with human exposure over a 10yrs time span, no discovery of cancer or side effects for human and pets. I'm set.

So..who wants to make their live baits glow like a neon lunch sign? I'll be purchasing some xanthene acid yellow 73 dyes to mix with the food source for my worms (mealworms, waxworms, and compost worms). If all successful within the next 3 months, I'll be incorporating it into the glue for live bait was well. Can you say, "DING DING DING! FISHY FISHY FISHY. LUNCH IS READY!!" Hey Bruce, here's a little experimentation for your Condello's Strain feeding for the picky eaters. If they don't like the feed, the colors will mimic natural foraging foods.

Apparently, the xanthene acid yellow 73 has a UV glow in lowlight, and heavily detected by aquafauna species due to their specialized enhanced eyes. So, anyone want to join me for a fun in the mad scientific experiment?

For those who go, "HUH?!" and can't search for such dye, here it is:

i love tying flies and jigs so iam constantly in the craft stores even more now that the only nearby fly shop closed.not from me buying stuff at the craft store.he had a pretty high end place that catered to people that could afford 800.00 rods to go to new zealand.sorry to get sidetracked, well the craft stores sell colored plastic tubing that is the same as the fly stuff only 10 times cheaper.i found some that is glow in the dark.it is the perfect size to thread up a hook.so the hook shank is covered.glow hook.i think it was 1.95 for 15 feet of this stuff.and unlike paint it will last longer than the hook

OOoo...mind sharing the brands/names of the materials?

i will make some this week end and take some pics.sounds like a winner glow worms on glow hooks

Count me in Leo. I should have learned to stop falling from my kayak, by the time you're ready!
