Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I'm hanging my rods up until gill's spawning season. Not even bother with the trouts this year..after the fiasco yesterday:

Day started out, with me half asleep because our little girl decided to keep us up half of the night kicking us in our bed rather than sleeping in her own. Left for Lake Perris at 5:30am. Got there, ultra dark, and wait in a long long line of boaters. 6am, unloaded the inflatable pontoon, with every part of my body screaming "IT'S FREAKING COLD!" Fingers were frozen even with high dexterity sport gloves on at 35°F. Yeah..I see some ice along them hills.

In the water by 6:25am, loaded up the rods, dipping the first line with homemade corns to entice possible holdover trouts. Pull out the new Blue Fox gold rattler with frozen fingers..*OPPS!* dropped one into the water. That's okay..pulled out another blue one..*OPPS!* in the water..ARGG! Pulled out the third one, while keeping the line over the rear platform..successfully put on the line. Cast time! Water temp, 49°F. Dang. Fishes are not chewing. Out of 15 bass boat chaser, only 1 manage to land a 6lbs, while others, 1 to 2lbs. No panfish, no cats, no carps. Way too slow.

Wife called, at 10am, and need to be somewhere for a family outing at 1pm. There goes the day of fun on the water. Pack up at 11am, put rods on top of minivan, load up the heavy equipment, and head home..errr..rods..Drove for 2 miles, forgot the rods on the top. Heavy side wind knocked the rods over. *CRAP!* I saw all my still new rods flew off. Stopped the car, ran to the rods, and a few cars already drove over the rods. Drove home, with a mindset stating, "Oh well..fishing season is official over."

Worst fishing day ever.

Leo, that is rough indeed. Look at it this way, you've surely used up your quota of bad luck for awhile! Hang tough my friend, better times are on the horizon.

Truly it's the only way to look at it..I guess we can say that the fish god is telling us, "Hey, give them a chance to rest and grow.

What is really telling you is fly to San antonio TX HAHAHA

on a serious note, that is cold indeed, I didn't know it got that cold in CA, we have been lucky here with a mild winter and the spring fed river lakes don't get that cold , that quickly all the other lakes are in the 50's range and the river lakes are still holding in the 60's

Yesterday the water was down to 61 and the "gills" weren't as active but I still managed to catch about 10 fish 10" or better in about 4 hours

Wow, that is truly a warm winter indeed. I do have family in the TX regions, so, wouldn't be surprised if I'm down there.

Leo when it rains it pours, remind me to never go fishing with you when your having a bad hair day. But there is a bright side to the story, we are getting closer to spring.

Amen to that Dick..amen to that. Need save, repair, and purchase new rods.

I can defiantly see why after you last run of luck.  Tomorrow's a better day.

See LEO, That is why you need a MASS QUANTITY of rods!!!!!!!! I would love 49 degree water, it ain't over til lake freezes over!!!!! The the ICER'S move in!!!! Did it break your fly rod?????

Greg, if my woman, allow me to store that many rods at our place, the massive quantity wouldn't be a problem. Marriage is a compromise that we all have to agree upon.."sacrifices" as the marriage vow had us agree upon..right, right? LOL Luckily, I didn't bring my fly rod to use for trouts. However, my ultra light rods that I got for gills, well, the highway god claimed it. Fish god was smiling. Bank account and me were pissed. Will need to haul massive quantity of gills during spawning seasons to make up for all the bad juju I got from the start of new year..Will have to use the fly rod as part of my ultra light arsenal now.

Don't believe the vows said anything about FISHING RODS!!!! Guess you will have to splain that one to me!!!!! rotflmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fishing Pre dates the vows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Leo that is a rough day!

I am going out maybe tomorrow afternoon and hoping to catch something. Its really hard right now..fishing is so slow. No panfish at all..NONE.

Hey Tim, you guys got redears in your neck of the woods? Apparently, a few of the boys over here are landing small quantity of redears. Very nice size one at it. Would love to have other chime in on the redears on so I can collect some info on the pre-spawning habits. Not a lot of data posted on the net about their habits throughout the nation. Would be a massive insight if we can crack it wide open with discussions.
