Best jig and hook size for big 'gills

Okay, my girlfriend ordered me some 1/32 oz jigs with a size 4 hook, personally i think thats a bit large for gills?? What do yall think? Will they work or should i use em for crappie heads??Continue

In recent years I have used several variations from BnM poles, the Fish Hunter and Shooting Star series have been by my side for thousands of gills.....Black Widow Series may be the best and tat translates in the cost. The only failures I have experienced have come from the designs to make the pole very light by adding tiny holes throughout the handle/grip....bigger fish have collapsed these poles on me so I took them out of service.........The brands I mentioned have Line Winder technology that I like for storage in between uses....Again, these little options will be decided on with use....I try to minimize the time that my poles are wound up and secured. I like to leave them extended as often as possible during idle times to keep those line wraps from impacting my fishing.......All little tidbits that may not appeal to other anglers but something I like...I have ten poles in my garage right now that I put new line on over the holidays to allow the line to relax and get rid of the spool memory that occurs with most monofilament......Good thing about pole fishing, it's not an expensive endeavor to determine which one will suit you the best....
Line size would be more important to me Jordan than the pole in heavy cover environments.I catch hundreds of big sunfish on my ten footers including big Crappie and Bass...the key is to have strong line to absorb the shock of getting them out to open water where you can then play them out like you would with any other pole....I catch big Channel Cats and Bowfin on these telescopics....I do swing fish in to the boat but I also keep a landing net available......but chose to your liking but remember the longer the pole the more difficult it will be to fish near and around obstacles that naturally attract and hold our target species.....I concede that some fish offer me less than a 20% chance of getting them in the boat, but this would be apex predators and fish I run into not necessarily target....You'll settle on what's best for your style....Some folks might be upset to lose a 20" largemouth but I bait back up and look for a gill....If I do land him, I grab a picture and bait back up and look for a gill.....

Welcome Jordan to Big Bluegill. I am also a member of Big Bluegill wanting to welcome you and to share some of what goes on here at the site. This is a site with loads of information where we can learn and enjoy in what we like doing best, fishing. In this site we have loads of information we can feed off of and share and learn and having a good time doing so. We have FORUMS, BLOGS, CHAT ROOM, SPECIAL GROUPS, VIDEO'S, and the best PHOTOES you can find anywhere on the internet. Feel free to jump in and investigate the site it is loaded with information and above all don't be afraid to participate we are all still in the learning process and improving and honing our skills making us better fishermen/fisherwoman and enjoying it all throughout the process.
What you personally may add my be that little extra something that we can put in our own little bag of tricks something we can use to make us better fisher people ourselves.
We are all about Bluegill, Big Bluegills ( Bluegills, Sunfishes, Red Ears, Brim family) but not to stop there you will read about many different species of fish even some you may not have known even existed in the Blue Gill world and forums with many picture to share, but our main goal is catching that ultimate giant Gill so we can meet that special goal and maybe some braggin rights along the way. Its just a good well rounded site with loads of information with good people a family atmosphere who don't mind sharing, we have loads of fun doing so which you will see.
Our Video section that will keep your blood pumping and make you want to be fishing on that special lake or river fishing your heart out. (TAKE A KID AND DADS FISHING) such a great high. Above all we want you to enjoy yourself don't be afraid to share some of your fishing experiences with us we would love to hear about them please don't be afraid to share your exact lakes with me with all GPS coordinates and the exact baits you used it will be our little secret.

We all love to share and share we do with some breath taking photo's. It will take you hours to see then all and you'll enjoy every minute of it..
