Do you love big bluegill?

I really enjoyed the story....Many of you may have already read it.....Pretty cool that a little community lake would hold World Record Gills.....

This is a neat story about trophy gills if you haven't had a chance to read it before.......just click on the attached link....

No disrespect intended on my part also. Like Jeffrey, I would be satisfied to simply tie into a Lepomis of that caliber, irregardless of pedigree.

I wish we knew more about the World Record Fish but with no disrespect to Mr. McKenzie this fish appears to favor Tony's suggestion of a hybrid......Don't get me wrong as I would love to land a fish in this class hybrid or not........I even think the recent North Carolina record Green Sunfish looks like a hybrid but a great fish none the less........I for one have been hoping that our 11 plus year run without a big fish kill would maybe produce some larger gills but that hasn't happened to date......I'm very satisfied with the quality and numbers in the Albemarle but don't know all the answers to questions like " Do bluegills live as long in brackish water"?  meaning do they even have a chance to achieve record size or does the environment that stimulates rapid growth early actually lead to a healthier but shorter life span......all things that are interesting to ponder.......all interesting to me as an avid bluegill angler.......

Excellent read! i really like the quote below...

Environmental factors, and WW II which took some fishing pressure off the fish, seemed to make the difference at Ketona Lake. Scale checks of McKenzie's bluegill showed it to be nine years old. That is three years older than most experts calculated as a maximum age attainable for a bluegill at that time.

they say in Michigan it takes an avg of eight years to reach just ten inches

This is the story behind the fish in the Field n' Stream picture that Alton Fielding posted earlier this week.

For those members that may have not read this article....it's an interesting read regarding big bluegill....pretty neat how things turned out based on circumstances surrounding this little community in Alabama years ago....

I would have got fired from the little bolt and rivet company......with a bluegill hole like that just out the back door.....Also shows how many big fish were just brought home and eaten back in those days.....just like the world record largemouth from the thirties.....
